Thousand Island is such a versatile dressing. Great on salads, burgers, or as a dip for crispy french fries. Sure, you can add mustard, lemon juice, Worcestershire to fancy it up, but this recipe is simple and delicious! Why is it called thousand island though? I'll tell ya - it's said to come from the Thousand Islands region, located along the upper St. Lawrence River in between the U.S. and Canada. It's said that a fisherman's wife made it to go with her husband's dinner. And the rest is delicious history!
Here's how to make it:
Ingredients
2 dill pickle spears, finely chopped
1/2 cup mayonnaise
3 TBS ketchup
1 1/2 TSP granulated sugar
1 1/2 TSP distilled white vinegar (or rice wine vinegar - all I had in the house and it worked!)
Instructions
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
Let it cool in the fridge for at least an hour before using.
No 3rd step - that's how easy this is! :)
