If you love a creamy, chocolatey buttercream frosting then this is the recipe for you! It's just the right amount of chocolate, and I add cinnamon to give it a little spice. You can even add 1/2 teaspoon chili powder for a real kick! This recipe makes enough for one 9" cake so I recommend doubling it or increasing ingredients according to what you're baking.
Here's how to make it:
Ingredients
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup milk (non-dairy milk works!)
1 TSP vanilla extract
1 TSP ground cinnamon (optional, but it's delicious)
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
Instructions
First, you'll want to sift your powdered sugar, This will give your frosting a creamier, smoother consistency.
Add the softened butter to a large bowl and using a hand mixer (or stand mixer) beat until smooth.
Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until combined.
Add the cocoa powder, milk, vanilla and cinnamon (if using) and mix until it's completely smooth and at your desired consistency. You can add more powdered sugar if necessary.
Scoop it into a piping bag and have fun decorating your cakes, cupcakes, and cookies! I love my Wilton piping tips, they give me the perfect pipe every time.
