Sugar Glass Hearts

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

It’s almost Valentines day, so I wanted to make something that's unique, pretty to look at, and fun to eat (but make sure you don't break a tooth!). These sugar glass hearts only have 4 ingredients, and they're really easy to make. You can make these with any mold, not just hearts. Get creative! Check out the yummy cookie cups I made them with.

Here's how to make them:

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar

  • 2/3 cup light corn syrup

  • 1/2 cup water

  • Red food coloring (I like to use natural food coloring, no chemicals)

Instructions

  1. Mix the sugar, corn syrup and water in a heavy pot over medium heat.

  2. Stir continuously. It will turn into clumps, and eventually become completely melted.

  3. Use a candy thermometer to make sure it gets to about 310° F to get it to the "hard crack" stage. If you don't have a candy thermometer, every few minutes use a spoon to drop some of the candy into a bowl of water. It’s ready when it forms a brittle thread and easily cracks.

  4. Add in a few drops of red food coloring.

  5. Remove the candy from the stove and use a spoon to carefully drip the candy into a heart-shaped silicone mold. Be very careful - melted sugar burns hurt, trust me!

  6. Put it into the fridge to cool and that's it!

Did you make them? Share pics in the comments!
