Who doesn't love a super chocolatey hot chocolate? These super fun hot chocolate bombs are sure to be a crowd pleaser, especially if you have little ones in the house. They're really simple to make using this silicone mold and there are very few ingredients. You can get really creative with them too! You can use different toppings like nuts and sprinkles (I used crushed candy canes here since they were for Christmas) and you can even use white chocolate and matcha instead of hot chocolate powder.
Here's how to make them:
Ingredients
1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet, dark, or white)
6 TBS hot chocolate mix
1/2 cup mini marshmallows
Decorations/Sprinkles
Instructions
Place a medium-sized pot on the stove with about 2 inches of water in it. Place a bowl over the pot (or use a double boiler) and add the chocolate chips.
Heat the chocolate on medium-low and stir until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
Remove the pot (or double boiler) from the stove but leave the pot with water in it.
Put the chocolate molds on a baking sheet (this will keep your surface from getting too messy). Add about 1-2 teaspoons of the melted chocolate to each mold using a small pastry brush (I prefer the silicone brushes for this). Make sure you cover the entire dome up to the edges.
Put the tray with the molds in the freezer for 5 minutes (this sets the chocolate).
Remove the tray from the freezer and repeat the process of brushing the chocolate into each dome, giving it a second layer to ensure it's thick enough. Return to the freezer for another 5-10 minutes.
Add 1 tablespoon of the hot chocolate mix and about 5-6 mini marshmallows to half of the domes.
Take a clean plate and place it over the pot with water that is still on the stove. This will heat it up enough to melt the dome to attach and make the bombs.
Once the plate is heated carefully take half of the empty domes out of the molds and place them one at a time on face down on the plate to melt the top. Once slightly melted place it on top of the dome filled with hot chocolate mix and marshmallows and hold in place until attached well.
Pace them back into the freezer for about 5 minutes or until the seal is set.
Carefully remove the bombs from the molds and decorate! If you have extra chocolate you can drizzle it on top.
Put a chocolate bomb in a mug and pour hot milk (non-dairy works too) over it and watch the magic!
